2. How to Stay Chill When Life as a Mom is Chaotic and Loud

Being a mom is challenging, and it's easy to feel overwhelmed and burnt out when life gets loud and chaotic. In a recent podcast episode of Chill Like a Mother, Rachel Rose and Kayla shared some valuable insights on how to stay calm and centred, even during the most stressful moments of motherhood.

"I’m resentful that we (moms) have to set the tone. If I'm messing up or tired or not my best self, I watch it reverberate around my household until I somehow gather the energy to turn it around.” - Rachel Rose

According to Rachel, one of the most challenging aspects of motherhood is the pressure to set the tone for your household. Not feeling your best can have a ripple effect on everyone else in the house, and it's easy to feel guilty for not living up to expectations. However, Rachel has learned the importance of finding a circle of stillness, a space to be creative and mindful. She believes it's essential to ground yourself in resources like making art in a mindful way, writing, and being outdoors. These activities help her reconnect with herself and find peace, especially during chaotic times.

Kayla's advice centers around the idea of being intentional. She suggests shifting the expectations that you have of yourself and recognizing that some days, you'll be able to accomplish everything you want, while other days, you'll just need to get through the day. By being intentional about your time, you can make the most of it and prioritize the things that matter most to you. She also emphasizes the importance of avoiding mindless scrolling on your phone and, instead, making the intention to be intentional with your time.

Here are three ways to cope with life as a mom when it gets loud and chaotic:

  1. Create a Circle of Stillness: Find space for yourself to be creative and mindful. This could be an art studio, a quiet corner of your home, or even a park. Use this space to ground yourself and reconnect with your inner self.

  2. Be Intentional: Prioritize what matters most and be intentional about your time. Avoid mindless scrolling on your phone and intend to be mindful of how you do spend those moments of quiet that present themselves.

  3. Ask for Help: Sometimes, it can be hard to ask for help, or we might not even know what kind of support we need. By being assertive with how you ask for help, you can identify the areas where you need support and communicate those needs to others. This can help you feel more supported and less overwhelmed.

In conclusion, being a mom can be loud and chaotic. Still, staying calm and centred is possible even during the most challenging moments.

By creating a circle of stillness, being intentional about your time, and asking for help when you need it, you can cope with the challenges of motherhood and find a sense of chill and fulfillment in your life.
